Cyré Guadalupe, LCSW

What should you know about working with me?

My therapeutic style is client-centered and I utilize a strengths-based approach to engage and motivate clients to achieve their goals and overcome any barriers to success as well as develop coping mechanisms to manage daily stressors. I primarily use evidence-based techniques, including cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness, motivational interviewing, and solution-focused counseling. However, I will explore other treatment modalities that best suit my client’s needs.

What can you expect from our first session?

The feedback I receive from clients is that they find me to be warm, approachable, nonjudgmental, and supportive. I believe that it is essential to have someone outside of your immediate circle to offer honest and unbiased support and I hope to be that person for you! Together, we’ll work to address whatever challenges you are experiencing and help you learn more about yourself and your intrapersonal awareness.

My Education & Experience

I hold a bachelor of science degree from Cornell University and studied human development.  I’ve always had a passion for working with youth and empowering them to reach their full potential, but was unsure in which capacity. I decided to pursue social work and earned my master of science in social work from Columbia University in 2013 specializing in family, youth and children services. After starting my social work career in program development, I realized that I wanted to work directly with children and impact them in a way in which they felt seen and heard on a daily basis. This sparked my interest in school social work and becoming licensed.

After serving middle and high school students in urban communities, I recognized how much ADHD, anxiety, depression, and suicidal ideation were impacting BIPOC families and the importance of mental health awareness in education. These experiences enabled me to expand on my clinical skills, which led me to become a licensed clinical social worker and launch my private practice. I enjoy connecting with clients and empowering them to grow, learn, and heal from their behaviors and experiences.

How do my core values shape my approach to therapy?

I lost my parents at an early age and watched my family face challenges, such as incarceration, substance abuse, and domestic violence. Being raised in a Black, Christian, and low-income household in Brooklyn, New York, mental health was never discussed nor did my family help me process the trauma I had experienced. As a result, I believed I had to be “strong” and hide my emotions. I did not have someone to listen, provide a safe and supportive space for me to be vulnerable, or simply ask me how I felt.

My studies in human development along with my internships helped me recognize that there was something special about building a trusting relationship with someone who can listen to you tell your story and offer you support in a way that is aligned with your needs. I strive to be the person who helps guide you through your healing journey and creates a space where you feel safe, accepted, and validated.
